season eight of the x-files is considerably darker than any of the previous seasons and really emphasizes how inherently gothic the show is even as it flits between sci-fi, horror, and procedural...mulder has a fluidity usually associated with gothic heroines that allows him to pass between spaces and realities and that allows scully to become the more masculine/dominant in their partnership EVEN as she winds up in "damsel in distress" situations all the time. but its an intellectual dominance she has. without mulder she is forced back into the typical female role in the gothic novel and endures this very graphic version of victimization that is absent from earlier seasons and i do think its because the locus of power has shifted in the absence of mulder's femininity

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they sleep on the second floor of the Unremarkable House?
So... OP might have a point.
do you think mulder has a hard time staying on the first floor of places because headlights from cars driving by flashing on the window panes reminds him of the lights from when samantha was abducted and[GUNSHOT]

HL Incorrect Quote #44
*in the Ravenclaw common room*
Amit: *slowly comes in while staring into space*
Samantha: Oh, Amit! You went with MC to translate some Gobbledegook, right? How was it?
Amit:
Andrew: Er, Amit? Are you alright?
Amit: I think...my memoir just got more interesting!
Samantha: Oh, that's good! So it went well?
Amit: Oh, it went terribly. Goblins found us and tried to kill us. Then MC and I fought them off. Well, MC did most of it, with this strange magic of conjuring lightning without a Thunderbrew, and being able to grab exploding barrels and chuck them at the enemies!
Andrew: That sounds...horrifying.
Amit, still excited: Oh, it was. I'll probably have nightmares, but it will be an exciting chapter for my book!

post atom eve special and season 2 thoughts
INVINCIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!!! if you don't wanna be spoiled, don't read!!
okay.
okay okay okay OKAY.
oh my god this show is insane. debbie is everything to me. i was so genuinely upset when she and oliver were in danger that i felt sick. she is such an incredible character and the writers have done her immense justice. she's a wife and a mother and that doesn't stop her from being strong, it actually makes her stronger. her relationship with mark is so incredible and the symbolism of their matching black eyes was impeccable. they've both been hurt in similar ways, by nolan and by angstrom. they're marked by their trauma, but they share the weight together.
oliver is a delight and mark's instant desire to care for him and protect him was so wholesome and wonderful! he was willing to drop everything to care for his little brother and that, more than anything, makes him human and so very, very loving. at least nolan was willing to acknowledge that oliver is blameless in everything.
and nolan..... jesus. probably some of the most insane character development i've ever witnessed. he is so nature versus nurture, and he's become human through his twenty years on earth. maybe debbie feels like those years were for nothing, but there's proof that they had a profound impact on nolan and how he views life. he is, by all accounts and purposes, no longer a viltrumite. he's human. it's a pretty classic trope (the evil alien finds humanity redeemable and discovers that their "inferior" lives are just as valuable as the alien's), but invincible doesn't make this trope feel tired. it feels compelling and powerful, because we have a clear picture of the stakes. anissa and the other viltrumites make that very clear.
anissa herself serves her purpose: she's there to be a reminder of why mark and the coalition are fighting back against the viltrumite empire. she's fast, she's strong, and she completely lacks any form of compassion or empathy. mark barely holds his own against her, which is incredibly powerful after watching mark face off against the sequids and all the other big bads of this season. i really, really hope the show finds a way to avoid her assault of mark because i see no positive gains from that storyline. mark has already been through the wringer too many times over. there's no point in making him suffer further.
speaking of, mark in this season brought me to tears more than once. he is trying so damn hard to be nothing like his father. he's trying to be a good boyfriend to amber. he's trying to be a good friend, a good student, a good son, a good brother. the odds are continually stacked against him and yet he never gives up. he is so very human and his story is so, so heartbreaking. all three of the graysons have their fair share of trauma after this season, but i feel like mark's is somehow the worst. you have to remember that he's only eighteen when all of this happens. he's just barely not a kid, and he's pretty far from being an adult. his brain's not even fully developed yet, and he has to defend an entire planet from the psychotic race of aliens that he shares DNA with. he suffers so much. just give the kid a damn break, cecil. he needs a hug. and therapy.
the parallels between nolan and debbie were incredible. the song choices, the montage of them traveling aimlessly, both of them coming so close to killing themselves... my jaw was on the floor. even mark had a moment of suicidal ideation in the eighth episode, and that through line for all three of the graysons was so well done.
eve. eve is my perfect darling love and she has never, ever done anything wrong in her life. the special was so tragic and while the animation was stunning (those fight scenes alone were jaw-dropping), the true high point of it, for me, was the way it handled the found family trope. this trope is a personal favorite of mine, and it was a real treat to see it given the weight and power it deserves, with a terribly tragic twist. "you killed people i didn't even know i loved" is insane. eve changing her broken family portrait to instead depict all of her deceased family members so clearly was SO powerful. that girl has been through so much, and her special supplemented her character development in a way that she so deserves.
all in all, i am destroyed. i am in shambles. the writing in this show is next-level. there's things i didn't mention in the post that were utterly spectacular (the multiverse references, angstrom levy, rex's development, rick and donald's stories about bodily autonomy, kate and immortal) and of course are deserving of praise, but i am just so impressed with the way the graysons have been handled. it's rare that a family feels so strong and fleshed out not just as a unit but as individuals as well, and all three of them carry so much narrative weight in a way that makes it clear they're forever connected.
i can't wait to see what insanity season three brings. stay invincible everyone.

Yes Sam is very forgiving and kind. I think a lot of Tory’s actions throughout the season kind of shows that Daniel was right to stop the fight. Tory was not only grieving the death of her mom but she was also very angry too. Anger is also what she always resorts to but I can’t blame her because it is all she knows but it is not okay for her to be taking that anger out on Sam. I hate how the fandom always Sam to be at the receiving end of Tory’s anger all the time. They most def should have gone after her though.
…well Tory’s anger was stemming from grief. Anger is a very large part of the 5 Stages of Grief for a reason. Obviously she shouldn’t have taken it out on Sam, but she wasn’t thinking rationally, that’s the point! She and Sam were friends by then, she wouldn’t have fought Sam in her right mind. It wasn’t even about Sam, it was about the tournament.
And as for Tory being angry the rest of the season…I mean, was she? The only time we see her get mad at Sam is when Johnny wound them both up in hopes that they’d fight each other—Sam was mad too. And ultimately they talked it out, hugged it out, and became friends (and I can’t imagine how devastating it must’ve been for Sam to see Tory in a Cobra Kai gi again 🥺)

I think that what happened between Simon and Samantha made Simon’s anger towards Denizens personal, with what started off being seemingly positive being soured by the abandonment. He generalized those feelings towards Denizens in general, feeling them untrustworthy.
Grace, meanwhile didn’t seem to have any positive relationships with Denizens, never mentioning one, and saying she didn’t need to get to know one to Hazel. Her early experience with the Steward was terrifying, and she viewed Denizens as overall dangerous without the positive experience to balance it out.
Simon was reminded of his feelings of betrayal upon seeing the Cat, but his feelings towards her are complicated with him saying goodbye, and going to her for help). So Simon decided to reject a possible bond with Tuba to avoid having to reexamine his feelings towards Denizens and to reassert his beliefs. Grace meanwhile, spends time with Tuba, and even without realizing it, begins to see a more positive side of Denizens through her and her bond with Hazel. This leads to her becoming more willing to reexamine her beliefs and show open-mindedness to the Denizens.

Samantha Ann Mulder
FC: Either Megan Charpentier or Melissa Benoist depending on the verse
content warning: Cancer, Illness, Alien Abduction, PTSD, Trauma
My name is Samantha Ann Mulder. I am the daughter to Teena and William Mulder. My brother is Fox Mulder. I have not seen any of them for a very, very long time. I barely remember their faces and their names, but I keep repeating those things so that I don't forget completely. My life was pretty normal for the first few years of life. But then one day I started to feel off. I had a headache, ear ache, buzzing in the ear, and even a few nosebleeds. I got taken to a lot of appointments and was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Cancer. The doctor's couldn't treat it. They didn't know what to do. As they were planning, or maybe this was part of the plan I was abducted by Aliens. Right from my bed. I was whisked away to outer space. They barely spoke to me. I barely spoke to them. I slept a lot. I think they put me in a coma or something at one point. There's not a whole lot I remember. But there were lots of wires and tests and medications. It wasn't fun. The first human I ever got to see on this ship was a lady with the prettiest red hair I'd ever seen. I don't know why the aliens did that. But they tested on her just like they tested on me. Knowing how scary this place was, I comfort her as much as I can. I can't do a lot though. I get tired easily and have to rest a lot. I struggle with my hearing, swallowing and dizziness. I sometimes feel real sad and can't help but cry. The aliens had kept me to try and help improve that, which I guess I understand. I do want to go home. I want to find Fox in particular - although I don't know why. I'm glad to be here because the red-haired lady needs comfort (at least I think so). She doesn't stay long though. I don't know how long I am here after meeting the redhead. But her absence leads me feeling very lonely. Maybe the aliens sensed that. Maybe not. But, while in a deep sleep, I find myself transported to Earth. What am I supposed to do? Will someone help me? Will I find my brother and the redhead?

i heard karlachs monologue was rlly good but holy shit i genuinely dont think i'll be the same after that
#olive.txt#bg3 spoilers#spoilers in tags !!#samantha seriously deserves an award that was soul wrenching#i think back in interviews where they talked abt karlachs trauma and how she reverts into a scared child#the whole encounter w gortash was very much that#and he speaks down to her and calls her a brat#imagine saying ''what do you know about the greater good'' TO THE LIVING EMBODIMENT OF GOOD#he doesnt care what he did to her at all but she does care!! he betrayed her and stole her future and there is no closure!#well i felt pretty satisfied i casted a dancing scroll on him and let karlach go to town *youre gonna go far kid plays in the distance*#her pain and anger is so understandable no one deserves this especially not her#the delivery of ''my heart. it was mine. and they took it'' is so incredibly natural and heartbreaking. this scene gave me actual heartburn#shes seemed pretty confident abt dying but i guess in her own words courage isnt fearlessness :(#ugh the part where she just wants you to tell her everything will be alright and that you can save her!!! so cruel larian!#for a character that lost their heart she sure as hell didnt lose her soul </3#''THANKS FOR LISTENING. FOR EXISTING. LOVE YOU.''#yeah was not prepared for what im guessing is the romantic version of her scene back at camp#idk why i thought they wouldnt address it but wow when she asks if youll stay w her when its her time to go. im in shambles#might take back some of my opinions abt her endings. its still cruel she doesnt get a Happy ending but its being handled rlly well so far

She wanted me to remind you of how the story ends. When everything is over, and the worst has happened, there's still one thing left in Pandora's Box. Hope.

Heads up 7 up wip thingummy
I was tagged by @commander-krios to share 7 sentences. Tagging @swaps55, @comeoniwantacoolname.
This is slightly more than 7, but counting dialogue is weird. A tiny bit about how every bit of war grinds people down. One of Traynor's jobs is checking for any news of the crew's family.
“When this started I felt bad I couldn’t care about all of them,” Sam said, “But it’s too much. Every day I find horrible news, and I don’t have to tell them but I still know.” “As for help,” Ness said. “You can’t do this every day.” “It’s part of my job!” It’s destroying you. But she thought of what Rhi would say, and tried that, instead. “It’s their job to keep you able to work. Ask for help.” Sam did, and Nguyen made it a rotation, and Ness saw the life come back into Sam’s eyes.

"What? I'm not a dog. Don't call me that."
He sighs, and continues. "I do like grilled cheese. And a what? No, why? I don't have enough emotional trauma to know?"
